Some 133 poor families most of them informal settlers will become beneficiaries of free housing program of Samal Mayor Alexander Acuzar.

Jay Lat, municipal administrator, said the mayor does not want to see families living in flood-prone areas in Samal. “Para nga naman maiwasan ang mga sakuna pag panahon ng bagyo at tag-ulan gusto ni mayor walang nakatira sa tabing dagat at mga mapanganib na ilog,” he explained.

The housing facilities are being constructed through the efforts of former Samal vice mayor Jun Espino who coordinated with Couples for Christ leaders.

Mayor Acuzar ordered the clearing of one-hectare land in Barangay Tabing-Ilog, Samal to give way for the construction of low-cost housing facilities.

The mayor is optimistic that more housing facilities will be put up in his municipality in the near future with the assistance of provincial government.
